The route to the workplace determines how materials, equipment and waste move. Plan it before construction is scheduled.
Decide this before construction
Fix levels and drainage before ordering flooring and the door. Plan a temporary rear exit if the existing kitchen remains in use.
Inspect the entire route
Review widths, heights, turns and vulnerable floors from the street to the work area. Agree use and protection of shared access.
Plan storage and deliveries
Decide where materials can stay and when they are needed. Excess storage blocks work; late delivery interrupts it.
What the drawing needs to explain
Draw a section with internal floor, threshold, outside level and drainage. Add a plan showing door movement, shoe storage and everyday access.
A situation to test your plan against
The kitchen-to-garden transition also handles shoes, shopping and wet coats. Include these everyday actions when redesigning the rear of a home. An attractive view alone does not make the connection practical.
Questions for your own property
- What is the narrowest opening?
- Where can materials be stored safely?
- Is external space use agreed?
Illustrative design situations, not evidence of completed work. Assess decisions against the actual property.
